MY OLD RELIABLE SMARTPHONE IS NO LONGER WORKING.
I NEED TO REPLACE IT.
But being the practical guy that I am, I have set a budget for a new smartphone: it should be around $200. I no longer have the guts to shell out nearly a thousand bucks for a new unit. And after doing some research, I realized I that sub-$200 smartphones are actually not that bad. Yes, these cheap units won’t let me play games but who cares. I just need them to call, text, check my Twitter or Facebook once in a while, and do some light browsing.
Here are some of the units I am considering:
HUAWEI HONOR X7
Huawei is no Samsung but it’s a pretty decent brand. The Honor X7 is a 5.9-inch phone that offers 3GB of memory, 32GB of storage and 16 and 8-MP cameras. Plus it will be running on Android 8.0 Oreo, bringing in new features such as Face Unlock. Pretty cool for a phone worth less than $200.
ZTE BLADE Z MAX
This has almost the same features as the Huawei Honor. It has 3GB of memory, an internal storage of 32GB, and 16 and 8 MP cameras. But it has a slightly bigger screen at 6 inches diagonally. It also has a fingerprint scanner for added security– which I like because it means no more need to memorize passwords.
MOTO E4 PLUS
It pales in comparison with the other units preceding it in this list, but I would have to say that Moto is a more reputable maker. This phone features a 5.5 inch screen, 2GB of RAM and two cameras (one is 13MP and the other is 5MP). But what really attracts me to this phone is the battery— at 5000MaH, this battery can keep this phone on for hours.
ASUS ZENFONE MAX 4
Asus is also a very good brand, having established its name first in computers before manufacturing its own line of smartphones. The Zenfone Max 4 offers 2GB of memory, 16GB of internal storage and front and rear cameras. It also has a respectable 5000MaH battery.
MOTO G PLUS 5
The most expensive in this list is also the best, bar none. It offers two cameras, one a 12MP shooter and the other, 5MP. It has 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Moreover, its 5.2 inch screen can deliver full HD display. There’s also a fingerprint sensor and a turbocharging mode that can extend the battery life to six hours after recharging the unit in just 15 minutes.
