The Best Shop Vac

Name Summary Buy on Amazon
Ridgid

#1 Choice for me and the one that I own. It really is powerful, lightweight and heavy duty. Great price for this machine. 5 STARS bigge

Craftsman
Definitely among my top choices. With 16 Gallons and 6.5 peak horsepower, it actually provides more than you’ll get with the Ridgid. I have nothing but great things to say about this shop vac. I only prefer the Ridgid because it is smaller and fits our space well. bigge

Shop-Vac

I actually like this shop-vac. It is a good vac for the price. Not quite powerful enough for my tastes, but not at all disappointing for the price. bigge

Appx $59.00

Armor All

Again, another shop vac that out performs my expectations. It is only 2.5 gallons, but this works well for mobility. People with pets love it for cleaning hair from the back of vehicles. 2 Horsepower motor isn’t going to blow anyone away, but it does have pretty dang good suction. bigge

Appx $35.00

Workshop

I owned this one before I bought the Ridgid. Sorry, but it is junk. Grade A. Wouldn’t pay a dollar for it. bigge

Appx $42.00

I actually have two awards for this product.  I’m going with my RIDGID because it has been so good to me and I’m going with the Craftsman.  Now, these two are the best for me and my situation.  I use them to best vacuum sealer the vehicles about once a week and to vac up any garage messes.  These are powerful machines that hold plenty.  We have used them for dog hair and they work great.

WHAT AM I LOOKING FOR IN A SHOP VAC?

1).  Power:  We use it at least 2 or 3 times a week to vacuum the vehicles in the garage.  We have 4 kids and have owned a dog.  There is plenty to clean and I like it spotless.  Both of these vacuums have plenty of power.  The Craftsman has 6.5 HP compared to 5 HP with the Ridgid.  I have never had an issue with the power of the RIDGID:

2).  PRICE: Honestly.  I made a mistake the first time I bought a shop vac by being cheap.  I bought this thing at Home Depot:

It was pretty much garbage.  It felt cheap and it wasn’t powerful.  It was only cheap.  After about 3 months, I upgraded to my RIDGID:

3).  Storage:  I mean storage of the stuff that I vacuum up and storage in my garage.  At 5 Gallons we went with the RIDGID because it fit well in our garage.  The Craftsman is a little too big for us.  The Armor all is a little small.

4).  WEIGHT: Need something that is easy to carry from one side of the car to the other.  Yet, that is still substantial enough that it doesn’t fall over.  The RIDGID is a great weight.

5). Attachments:  Obviously needed a carpet cleaning attachment.  Would have liked the skinny wand attachment to get into the cracks and crevices.  The RIDGID doesn’t come with this.  It looks like the Armor all shop vac does, but that wasn’t an option for us.

Summary:  I would recommend the RIDGID to anyone.  I would also say that the Craftstman is a DEFINITE buy.  The Armor all is also perfect for someone looking for a smaller, easier to store shop vac.
